Grady Jones F-5 Style mandolin. Good to Very Good condition. Some playware marks. Frets in good shape. Reddish burst. Repaired crack on back. Hardshell case.
Sitka spruce top, highly figured maple one piece back, maple sides and neck with a reddish or wine colored gloss lacquer finish, three-ply bindings on top, back and headstock, two-ply found fretboard, bound F holes and radiused ebony fretboard. Gold hardware and engraved James tailpiece, Gotoh tuners with ebony buttons, very nice abalone fern and flowerpot headstock inlay.
This a very good sounding instrument featuring a distinct sound. Described as dry, bold, and rich sounding with excellent volume, tone and balance. Big Bluegrass chop.
Grady has more arch on this tops and backs which appears to give a larger internal air chamber. Interesting tone.
